The Future is in IT

Malta Independent Tuesday, 26 September 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The news that another IT company is opening up a base in Malta to create 600 jobs in the sector is most welcome.

At a time when the structure of our industry is changing, such new opportunities make up for the loss of employment elsewhere.

I understand that the government is giving particular attention to developing the IT sector in Malta. The SmartCity project is the biggest of such investments.

I do urge the government to continue pursuing other companies who show an interest in setting up shop in Malta.

But I also urge parents to push their children to those areas that will definitely offer a bright future. While it is important that we continue to have lawyers and doctors, it is equally vital that Malta can provide as many IT personnel as possible. It is a sector that is bound to continue to grow.
