Over 60kgs of fish landed in the doubles, match 5

Again another whopping doubles match, an even greater success than the previous one. This fifth match was held at Xghajra with 13 teams taking part for what proved to be a very keenly contested match in which the anglers could not stop landing fish for the full five hours duration.

Although no particular big fish were caught the amount landed was astounding, with a total of 60kg, mostly Ornate Wrasse (lhud), Annular bream (sparli), Red Mullet (trill), Black sea bream (Tannut) a rare breed to catch from shore, and various other wrasse.

Nearly all anglers surpassed the 3kg mark and, strange as it may seem, Julio and Neville although not placing with the top three, managed to get 3kg of Ornate Fish, this being the only kind of fish they landed. Surely an incredible feat as this fish is a bottom feeder which lurks with a huge variety of other species.

Nathaniel and Adrian the winners had a field day as from the very first cast they were into nice sized annular bream and could not stop catching the blighter. This gave them a slight edge over the rest of the pack, as their fish were slightly bigger and thus heavier, landing a smashing 4.3kg.

Full Results: 1st Nathaniel Attard and Adrian Nelson 4.30kg; 2nd Paul and Brady Sammut 3.72kg; 3rd Lawrence Scicluna and Clayton Camilleri 3.60kg

Section Winners: Steve Johnston and Stefan Borg 3.20kg; Pierre Poulton 2.30kg; Kevin Cassar and Saviour Borg 3.24kg

After weigh-in live fish were released to live another day. This match was again kindly sponsored by Mister Fish.

The next event is to be held on 8 October at Kalkara.
