Marsa win series against Drovers 2-1

Over the weekend Marsa CC played Drovers CC from London in one 40 over game and two 20 over games.

On Saturday the 40 over game was played with Marsa winning the toss and electing to bat. Marsa batted well and made the visitors work hard in the field. Frank Spiteri batted well for 41 runs; Sam Dhandapani batted with caution for 33 runs. Two quick wickets fell and brought together John Grima and Ronnie Sacco, Sacco making 43 runs while Grima ended with 52 runs not out.

Robert Krishna chipped in with 20 runs and Jonathon Tully scored 29 runs not out including a big six. Marsa totalled 284 runs including 47 extras. The visitors found it hard to find their line and length bowling 45 wides. Their main wicket taker was Markby with two wickets.

Drovers made an impressive run chase with Palmer top scoring with 80 runs before being run out in a big mix up. He hit nine fours and a six along the way. Hill and Hern both made 34 runs and Simmons 24. The visitors made 248 runs before being bowled out. Tony Azzopardi led the way for the Marsa bowling taking five wickets. Gordon Hewitt also chipped in with three wickets to continue his fine form.

On Sunday two games of 20 overs were played. In the first game Drovers won the toss and elected to bat. They totalled 165 runs after the allotted overs with fine batting performances from Dawson (35 runs), Teddorczyk (27), Palmer (50) and Woods 19. For Marsa an amazing bowling performance from Sarfraz Ali had him take six wickets. Marsa managed to make the runs in the last over. Earlier Javed Shah scored 40 runs and Chris Naudi 26 being the two top scoring batsmen for Marsa. For Drover Hill and Hern both took two wickets each.

In the second game Marsa won the toss and elected to field. Drovers again totalled well this time to better their previous score making 173 runs. Hill and Dawson top scored making 50 and 52 runs respectively.

For Marsa Jeya Krishna and Mike Caruana both took two wickets each. For the second game running the game went to the last over but this time Marsa were not able to make the runs and lost by three runs. Mike Caruana top scoring with 52 runs, Chris Naudi made 36 and Javed Shah 24.

Marsa lost the game but won the series two to one.

Next Saturday the third game of the Victor Miller Memorial will be played at 12:00. From 9:30 till 11:30 the cricket nursery/academy will be taking place.
