Sources Quoted incorrect

Malta Independent Sunday, 1 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I refer to the article entitled “Aero show crash could have been avoided” (TMIS 17 September).

I wish to inform you that the second enquiry you refer to as “being conducted by government” is in fact an investigation that is being carried out by the Bureau of Air Accident Investigation under the provision of Legal Notice 135/2002.

The Bureau investigators do not form part of the Department of Civil Aviation and in fact they are appointed by and report directly to the Minister of Competitiveness and Communication who is responsible for aviation matters.

For more information on the Bureau of Air Accident Investigation one can refer to the ministry website www.mcmp.gov.mt/civilaviation.asp

Therefore, the comments in your report concerning the government investigation are unfounded and the “sources” which you quoted are not correct.
