Thank you for a sensitive and well-written article about the evils of shooting migratory birds over Malta (When the minority calls the shots, TMID, 28 September).
Although legitimate hunting of some game species is an acceptable practice, this deplorable slaughter has long been condemned by the conversation community, and is a reason why my birdwatching friends and I have long boycotted your otherwise lovely island.
You may tell the political and economical powers-that-be that when they finally wake up and enter the modern era, which involves eco-sensitive practices and a conservation ethic, we will notice and be happy to visit Malta and spend our money. Until then, they can sit with empty hotels and restaurants.
