Predictably, with Labour having more local councillors than the Nationalists, Labour won yesterday’s first-ever election for the Local Councils Association’s council 4 to 3.
Qrendi deputy mayor and media personality Claudette Baldacchino obtained 108 votes and was elected from the South-East regional list (Malta Xlokk). Likewise, Kalkara mayor Michael Cohen, Santa Lucia mayor Frederick Cutajar and Nadur councillor Maria Natoli were elected from the general list.
On its part, the Nationalist party elected three councillors to the executive. The incumbent chairman of the association Ian Micallef was elected on the general list. Former Birkirkara mayor Doris Borg won the North-West region list (Malta Majjistral) and San Lawrenz mayor Noel Formosa won the Gozo region list.
