1. Gerald P. Kruth of Pittsburgh (TMID, 2 October) wrote that he would not be coming to Malta because, like many of his kind, he is against the hunting that takes place in Malta and Gozo. Well and good! Are we to take his advice and stop travelling to his country now that we have heard of the horrendous murder of five innocent young girls in an American school? This is a regular occurrence in The States.
2. PBS seems to be in a cost-cutting mood. Despite the fanfare heralding the introduction of the new winter schedules, many sports programmes have either been chopped or drastically reduced, both on Radio Malta and TVM. Considering that we are all paying to receive these programmes, we expect that the service will not be reduced, but possibly increased.
3. One final word to you, Mr Editor: when are we going to have new contributors in the Standard Publications newspapers? I think it’s about time because, in my humble opinion, some of them have become really stale, repeat themselves regularly and have nothing new to say. They only change headlines and change paragraphs around. But the gist is always the same. I am sure that there are other valid contributors who can enhance the newspapers’ standards.
