Maltese singer Brooke Borg and her singing partner Daniele Coletta returned from San Remo, Italy where they participated in the final of the Una Voce per San Remo Festival. The festival was held at the Teatro Ariston between 2 and 5 October.

This competition was open to all Italian singers aged between 14 and 36 years. In fact, Brooke could only participate because she sang a duet with Daniele, who is Italian. They interpreted the song A chi mi dice.

The young couple had to overcome stiff competition to reach the finals. In fact, there were 5,012 participants from all Italian regions in the first selection which was held last July. 200 made it to the first round of the semi-finals and 56 to the second round. Finally, 19 songs, including that of Brooke and Daniele, made it to the finals.

The jury panel in the semifinals was led by Mro Luca Pitteri better known as the vocal coach for participants in Amici hosted by Maria de Filippi. For the final night, the jury’s president was Mro Peppe Vessicchio, one of the most popular composers in Italy. The winner of this year’s edition of Una Voce per San Remo is a band group made up of 30-year-olds from Sardegna called Negramaro.

Brooke and Daniele have now been invited to return to San Remo during the renowned San Remo Festival to sing on the stage in San Remo Square (around 40 metres away from Teatro Ariston) where RAI will be doing live links during the programme La Vita in Diretta.

Brooke and Daniele have just entrusted their management and their professional development to the Malta Academy of Performing Arts which has launched a training programme for singers in conjunction with the JC Academy of the UK. More information on this programme may be obtained by calling David on 2133-1775.
