No More heavy vehicles

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Your leader, Traffic management (TMID, 6 October) is food for thought for the authorities concerned.

I do find it frustrating to have to drive to work at about 7.15am in the morning and find heavy vehicles on the road, slowing down the traffic flow to a point even slower than it should be at that hour.

Heavy vehicles should not be allowed to be on the road between 7am and 8.30am, as you said, but I would go one step further and suggest that they should not be on the road between 4.30pm and 6pm either.

Abroad, heavy vehicles are not on the road during peak hours. And this when the road network in other countries is much better organised.

The same thing should happen in Malta too. Large trucks and trailers should not be allowed on the road at a time when people are trying to arrive at work on time or to take their children to school.

This is common sense.
