Last weekend saw the birth of another international event in the village of Qala. This time the Qala Intern-ational Folk Festival, the other being the Gozo inter-national celebration.

I attended Thursday’s event, held indoors for obvious reasons – thunder and rain, and the Sunday evening held outdoors in the magnificent St Joseph Square.

Thursday was an exercise of defying thunder and the raining of cats and dogs, but Sunday’s closing evening proved to be a thunderous performance.

Praise goes to the organisers, Qala local council and the Menhir Folk Group, who have made a leap forwards since the Summer Gozo international celebration.

I shall be there in 2007!
