I refer to your leader, The purple party (TMID, 10 October) and would like to point out that apart from the blue and red voters – and the “purple” floating voters you dealt with – there is also a tinge of green that is growing in our population.

As you said, the people are dissatisfied with the way the local political parties are doing politics. But rather than not vote at all, they could resort to choosing Alternattiva Demokratika to represent them.

The Green Party has come a long way over the past years and although it has so far failed to pick up the necessary support to elect a member of parliament, there is a chance that this time round it will do so.

Arnold Cassola was close to election in the European Parliament polls and, although that was a different issue altogether because the Maltese were voting in one national poll – and not a system based on electoral districts – I believe that AD could do much better than they did in previous elections.

This is simply because many more Maltese have realised that this government is way past its sell-by date and, at the same time, the Malta Labour Party is not in a position to offer the right alternative.

So I do suggest to all those “purple” voters to choose “green” when the day comes.
