I do not understand the position taken in your leader, The chance to succeed (TMID, 21 October).

You suggest that the tax concession given to parents who send their children to private schools should be extended to those parents who send their children to Church schools.

May I remind you that the government already subsidises Church schools and, because of this, the donations Church schools ask for are a fraction of what we parents who send children to private schools have to pay.

As a parent who has children in a private school, I must point out that I pay my taxes and these go to sustain government schools from which I am getting no benefit. This is why I believe it is only fair for the government to offer such a concession.

Parents who send their children to Church schools are getting their “concession” anyway because the government is subsidising these schools.
