St Patrick returned to winning ways in style, when they disposed of Vittoriosa Stars 3-1 in an entertaining match. Vittoriosa had a good start but faded away completely when the Saints started to play some very good football. The inclusion of Gilbert Scerri as usual helped St Patrick in no small way.

The Saints could have even obtained a bigger victory hitting the post and having two shots cleared off the goal line. For Vittoriosa still in search of their victory it was a dismal morning, with their defence and especially their goalkeeper showing signs of weakness.

In the initial stages Vittoriosa looked the better team and went close after a couple of minutes with a very good move, with Trakosopoulos' final shot slightly missing the upright. The Stars kept the pressure in the initial stages but failed to be dangerous.

Slowly St Patrick started to move the ball better as Vittoriosa strted to release their grip on midfield. On 25 minutes St Patrick were unlucky to lose captain Mark Tanti injured, who was substituted by Gilbert Scerri. It was a blessing in disguise for the Saints as Scerri immediately made his presence felt with a series of dribbling that sent the Vittoriosa rearguard reeling.

And on 27 minutes St Patrick forged ahead, when Vittoriosa goalkeeper Cassar failed to grasp a harmless freekick taken by Failla, the ball finished against the crossbar and in nipped

Kenneth Abela who scored from close range.

This goal completely rattled Vittoriosa who were now completely outclassed by their opponents. Confusion reigned supreme in the Vittoriosa camp, who effected two hasty substitutions just before the break, with Larry Lagana surely not pleased with his exclusion. St Patrick had a penalty clain turned down by the referre when Burke handled the ball inside the area, and just before the half time whistle, Gilbert Scerri all alone in front of Cassar hesitated and his his central shot was blocked by the Vittoriosa goalkeeper.

In the second half St Patrick were more dangerous and on 58 minutes Cedric Sciberras saved off the line a certain goal following a Failla scorcher. On 65 minutes St Patrick doubled the score when Vince Camilleri's low shot completely beat a hesitant Cassar in the Vittoriosa goal. Three minutes later Abela missed another good chance in front of goal and on 71 minutes Vittoriosa came back into the game when they were awarded a dubious penalty when Anywanna fell inside the area. Substitute and veteran Ivan Zammit converted in style.

The match was now thrilling to say the least. Zammit headed away from the goal line a perfect Failla free-kick, and on 78 minutes St Patrick were again unlucky when a Fleri Soler header hit the upright.

Eight minutes from time Vittoriosa were reduced to ten men when Duncan Burke received his second yellow, and three minutes later St Patrick put their minds at rest with the third goal, Failla finishing off from the edge of the area.
