M. Farrugia (TMID, 23 October) does not want parents who send their children to church schools to benefit from the same tax concession granted by the government to parents who send their children to private schools.

It is likely that he sends his children to private schools, although in his letter he does not admit this.

But what comes across clearly is that he is rather selfish. As long as he gets his tax concession, then it is OK for others not to get it.

I ask, what would Mr Farrugia have said if the tax concession was granted to us, parents who send children to church schools, and ignored the likes of him? Would he have accepted it, or would he have complained that he was being left out?

I assure Mr Farrugia that I pay my tax dues, all of them, and part of my taxes go to sustain government schools. My children go to church schools and I pay some Lm350-Lm400 every year in donations. So why should I not receive a tax concession also?

I urge the government to consider this option, which you mentioned in your leader of 21 October. It would be fair to receive the same treatment. After all, for each extra child there is in a church school, there is a child less in a government school.
