M. Farrugia from Mosta (TMID, 23 October) seems to consider himself – and parents who send their children to private schools – as privileged.

His argument – that parents who send their children to Church schools should not benefit from a tax concession – does not hold water.

Yes, it is true that the government supports Church schools. But parents who send their children to Church schools pay their taxes too, and by not sending their children to government schools, are alleviating the government of the problem of catering for their children too.

It is also true that not all parents pay the donations to Church schools. But a tax concession in this sense could encourage parents to do so, as you rightly pointed out in your leader (TMID, 21 October).

I believe that the government, next year, should consider giving a tax concession to parents who send children to Church schools. It might not be as much as that offered to parents who send their children to private schools, but every little thing helps.
