A Civil Court has declared a marriage null and void after it heard that a Maltese man had married a Moroccan woman who was still married at the time.

The court, presided over by Mr Justice Noel Cuschieri heard how a man married a Moroccan woman but at the time she was still married to her Moroccan husband.

Mr Justice Cuschieri said that the court had not been provided with evidence to demonstrate that the woman’s husband had died, which meant that she had married another man while her first marriage was still valid.

The court also heard that the woman had married the Maltese man in order to gain a European passport.

Mr Justice Cuschieri therefore declared the marriage between the Maltese man and the Moroccan woman as null and void.
