Maltese-owned club Parramatta Eagles have had a request not to play in the New South Wales Premier League accepted by Soccer NSW Ltd, which organises the league.

The club, formerly known as Melita Eagles, did not want to compete in the higher division the coming season because of financial difficulties which it has been facing in the past few seasons.

The Eagles tried to re-enter the league after reaching a partnership agreement with Police Youth Community Clubs (PCYC), but their application was turned down by Soccer NSW.

The club now has to play in the Super League and hopes to win promotion to the Premier League once again. It is celebrating its 50th year of existence this month.

One positive note for the club is the fact that the youth team has been allowed to take part in that category’s Premier League.
