Thousands of people from countries all over the world are logging on to Malta’s newest information website every day.

The website, findit.com.mt, offers information on hundreds of different business in Malta and Gozo and, since its launch at the end of August, has received over two million page loads.

Findit lists everything from hair salons to private investigators and from estate agents to hotels in a simple, easy-to-use, fully searchable database.

Website general manager Wesley Ellul said he was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of traffic that the website is attracting.

“We realised there was a gap in the market for exactly this sort of website but we didn’t realise just how much the public were crying out for a proper ‘find engine’,” he said.

Findit is unique in that it has limited membership of the site to a certain amount of businesses – just seven in each category.

“One of the problems with the internet is the sheer volume of information that is available. People rarely get past the first results page of traditional search engines so we thought it would be more sensible to limit the number of business we list in each category,” Mr Ellul said. New businesses are joining findit at a rate of more than 100 a month, enabling the site to constantly grow and expand the variety of products and services on offer.

And there are plans to increase usage of the site still further by making it accessible to mobile phone users in the near future.

“Our intention is to make findit one of the most used information sources both among the Maltese as well as among those who are planning to visit Malta,” Mr Ellul said.

“Although the majority of our users are local, we are getting hundreds of hits every day from countries like England, Italy and Australia. It’s an ideal place for these people to find out about our islands before they get here.”
