A Gozitan man from Gharb was yesterday charged with assaulting and seriously injuring a police sergeant and a police constable on Sunday afternoon in Victoria.

Raymond Rotin, 36, was charged with assaulting police sergeant Mario Xiberras and police constable Louis Calleja in Patri Anton Debono Street in Victoria.

He was also charged with threatening the two police officers and with slightly injuring PS Xiberras and damaging his uniform. He was further charged with breaching the peace.

Before magistrate Paul Coppini, presiding over the Gozo Magistrates’ Court, the man pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was granted bail against a deposit of Lm300 and a personal guarantee of Lm500. He was also ordered to be home at 8pm every day and not leave his house before 6am.
