Kimberley Cassar (photo) is currently taking part in the ITF U-18 Tarkett Junior Open which is being held in Belgium till next Sunday.
This tournament has attracted some top ranking players in the U-18 category. A total of 67 girls are taking part, 24 of whom are ranked from 650 upwards. Kimberley is playing the qualification round and in her opening match she beat Anja Vreg from Slovenia 6-3,
6-0.
In the first week of September, Kimberley also participated in another U-18 ITF tournament that was held in Cyprus. Despite being only 14 years of age, she put up a very creditable performance there and managed to advance to the quarter-finals in the singles, and the semi-finals in the doubles.
Earlier on this summer Kimberley was one of the four European U-14 girl tennis players chosen by the ITF and Tennis Europe to form part of the 14 and Under Junior touring team.
This was the first time a Maltese player was chosen for this tour. Kimberley managed to advance to the semi-finals in the doubles in the LBS Muller Junior Cup held in Ulm, Germany and won, together with Ema Burgic of Bosnia and Herzegovina the doubles final of the Mercedes Jugend Cup held in Renningen, Germany.
