The MLP accepts the concept of free media so long as this sounds good to its ears. The latest complaint by the Labour Secretary Jason Micallef to RTK (31 October) adds to the chain of protests that the MLP continuously launch against the independent media whenever they report anything not their likings. They do this because many times they find this bulwark of freedom of expression weak and regrettably succumb to their pressure instead of standing up for their independence and freedom.

The Malta Labour Party is well known for its intolerance to anyone who does not tow the party line. Its strategy is now clearly emerging and this is to condition the independent media to its whims. It does this by continuous protests, by occupying space and time whenever this is possible and other means.

And all this when its members still occupy the opposition benches. We can imagine what is to come when this party gains the reign of government. Shall we be regaled with the old days of the 60s and 70s? We only have to keep our fingers crossed. Their record, however, does not augur well.
