MFA president Dr Joe Mifsud yesterday said that he hoped the MFA would be moving its headquarters from Valletta to the Ta’ Qali Stadium Millennium Stand sometime in June or July next year.

He said the association had been planning the move for quite some time now. This would enable the association to coordinate its work from one place.

The new headquarters will take approximately two storeys of the stand.

Dr Mifsud also revealed yesterday that next Monday the MFA will be receiving offers for another big project – the resurfacing of the Centenary Stadium pitch.

The MFA president said it will be a FIFA two star level surface on which matches of all types – even UEFA clubs and national teams competitive matches – can be played.

However, the surface will have to be certified by an approved FIFA laboratory every year.

The MFA president added that next Wednesday’s clash against Lithuania was being played at the Hibernians Ground at Corradino because the Ta’ Qali Stadium surface is not yet ready to host any kind of matches.

It is having an early afternoon kick-off because the Hibs Ground does not have adequate floodlighting facilities. However, he praised the stadium for possessing one of the best surfaces.

The Hibernians Ground Management Board jas just celebrated the 20th year since the Stadium was handed over by the Government to the club way back in 1986. The celebration was held on Thursday.

The licences for clubs taking part in European club competitions is one of the items for discussion in next Thursday’s Council meeting. This time, UEFA has made more difficult conditions for clubs to be eligible, but he hoped everything was being done in the right manner.

Dr Mifsud also said that the MFA had joined two UEFA conventions – referees and grass roots.

He said Malta was in the second wave of nations in the referees’ convention while in the grass roots convention, it had to start from scratch in a sector which has seven levels.

Dr Mifsud also said that the MFA, in conjunction with Melita Cable, had issued a commemorative DVD on the occasion of Malta’s historic 2-1 win over Hungary last month. “It is a collector’s item for all followers of the national team and one which is definitely worth archiving in one’s sports memorabilia,” he said.

It will be on sale for Lm3.50 as from next Wednesday, but those attending and buying a ticket for the Malta-Lithuania friendly on Wednesday at the Hibs Ground will only have to pay Lm2 for the DVD. It can be purchased from the Ta’ Qali National Stadium, Melita Cable Customer Care Centre at the Embassy Complex in Valletta, all local football clubs, Geraldu Kiosk, Valletta and D’ Amato Music Shop in Valletta.
