I could not agree more with Daphne Caruana Galizia’s piece Where birds come to die (TMID, 9 November). Many a time I have voiced my opinion in this very paper on illegal hunting – or better still slaughter – and it all falls on deaf ears.
It is up to Parliament to sort this problem out, not the police. I live in a little village where hunters shoot at no matter what. Like Ms Caruana Galizia, only yesterday I picked up and buried two dead robins in my garden. They met their fate at the end of a gun-barrel.
Parliament ought to give people a choice and a voice. Put the question on hunting to a referendum. I will guarantee you that hunting will be history in Malta.
Let the nation experience the beauty of a gaggle of geese flying overhead, the sound of a robin singing his heart out from atop of an olive tree, let gulls invade our harbours –let beauty live – it belongs to us all.
