Malta Labour Party spokesman for social protection Karl Chircop and housing spokesman Stefan Buontempo said yesterday that employees of the Housing Authority and Housing Department are concerned about their future.

In a joint statement, the MPs said an article published in In-Nazzjon six years ago said that the Cabinet had approved an amalgamation between the Housing Authority and the Social Housing Department.

“However, it took the government six years to take the next step, as three weeks ago in his budget speech, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said that the government’s policy in this sector is a dynamic one.”

The Labour MPs praised the initiative to amalgamate both departments, but pointed out that employees have been left in the dark about their future. They said the offices related to property should be combined and led by one office and not fall under two different

ministries.
