Yes, it is true.
The level of Maltese spoken on Maltese television and radio leaves much to be desired.
I agree with your correspondents M. Grech and C. Saliba (TMID, 14 November), who said that the media must do much more to keep our language alive.
But our language will die out if we continue to have presenters in the media who are not able to say a complete sentence in Maltese without adding some words in English or Italian.
Media presenters have a big role to play, but they are not playing it well.
All television and radio stations should be forced to carry out a thorough examination of the people they are to employ as presenters before they put them on air.
It is only through this system that our beloved Maltese will be safeguarded.
