Carlos Flores ranked No. 4 in the World of Table Football won the fifth edition of the World Masters Table Football Tournament when he had the better of Massimiliano Nastasi in the final with a 3-2 score.
The final seemed to have just one contestant when Flores opened a 3-0 lead in the first half but a good comeback from Nastasi in the second half almost produced a sensational result. The final was controlled by Maltese referee Patrick Pace.
In the semi-finals Flores won against the other Italian, holder of the last World Masters of 2004 Massimo Bolognino with a 2-1 win. Nastasi qualified to play the final when in the other semi final he won 3-0 against the only Maltese player who qualified with the last four Joe Mifsud.
The surprise of the day was that Maltese player ranked No. 1 in the world, Massimo Cremona did not qualify with the last four. The other two Maltese who participated in this tournament were Hansel Mallia and Charles Aquilina.
This tournament which was held at the Marsa Sports & Country Club was organised by the Malta Table Football Sports Association (M.T.F.S.A.). This was the first time that this tournament was organised in Malta where it was chosen to hold this tournament from the International body the Federation of International Sports Table Football (F.I.S.T.F.).
F.I.S.T.F. sponsored the price money awards for this tournament for all participants with trophies and mementos being sponsored by Michelle Peresso Limited.
After the final Thossa Busing and Fred Vulpes who are on the F.I.S.T.F. board and came to Malta for this occasion, presented the price money and trophy to Flores and finalist Nastasi together with the semi-finalist. The players who did not make it to the semi final were presented with price money as an appreciation for their participation and mementoes.
