Agenda have launched their newest initiative to continue promoting literacy in Malta. Aimed at all children aged between three and 12, the Agenda Kids Club wants to educate children about the importance of reading while introducing other important issues such as increased awareness about environment and health issues from a very young age.

“These values can only be instilled if we introduce children to books in a fun and innovative way while helping parents support their children’s reading developments. For this purpose, the Agenda Kids Club is introducing Mikiel, an intelligent fun loving character who will be representing the club. Mikiel will be present at all Agenda Kids Club events and looks forward to meeting and befriending all Agenda Kids Club members,” said Simon Debono, Agenda Bookshop Marketing Manager.

Children who become members of the Agenda Kids Club are entitled to special offers and discounts on children’s books, free entrance to and participation in fun filled events and storytelling sessions, free newsletters, free goodies upon registration and, most importantly, an insight into the wonderful and magical world of books. In order to enrol, children need to fill in the Agenda Kids Club application form available at all Agenda outlets and return it to any of the Agenda outlets listed below.

Members will normally be asked to pay Lm1.50 to contribute towards sponsoring a tree in the name of the Kids Club member. However, Agenda Bookshop has decided to pay the full contribution on behalf of its members up until 31 January 2007.

Mr Debono said: “Our environment is highly regarded at Agenda Bookshop and we firmly believe that the future of our country’s environment lies within the hands of each and every one of us. Therefore, there is no membership fee to enrol in the Kids Club and take advantage of all its benefits. Instead, we ask members to pay Lm1.50 as part contribution to sponsor a tree that will be planted in the name of each member. This is being done in conjunction with the government’s Tree for U initiative.”

Once the application process is completed, the child receives an Agenda Kids Club goodie bag together with his/her membership card. For more information one may send an email to: [email protected]
