This year’s international FISEC General Assembly was held recently in Vienna.

Malta was represented by the chairman of the Malta FISEC Council Brother Martin Borg fsc and the Director for Sport David Azzopardi. Gianfranco Selvaggi, the FISEC International General Secretary, Louis Borg, the International Vice President and Julie Bajada, Secretary General of the sub committee CIRPP within the international committee, were also present for this General Assembly.

During the meeting organised over three days and chaired by the FISEC International President, Dutch Math Pieters, there was also an analysis of the last games that were held in Keshkemet, Hungary. All delegates commented that these games were a huge success and accepted the bid made by the Hungarian committee to organise the 2007 games in Nyiregyhaza between 19 and 25 July.

The meeting also decided that the 2008 games are to be held in Malta.

The Malta FISEC delegation also had the opportunity to meet the Hungarian representative Bela Kerezsi..

During this meeting, Brother Martin stressed the importance that these games in Nyiregyhaza are held in modern sporting facilities and accomodation, with complexes also having international standards. Kerezsi assured Brother Martin and the Maltese delegation that his committee is doing its utmost so that these games in Hungary will again be a huge success.

In next year’s games there will be competitions in eight different disciplines. These are Swimming, Tennis, Football, Athletics, Handball, Futsal, Volleyball and Basketball.

In a press statement, the Malta FISEC Council announced that in the coming days, it will take a final decision about the Maltese contingent in Nyiregyhaza and the sporting disciplines that will be represented by the Maltese athletes.

In the past months, members of the Maltese committee analysed the Maltese participation and the results obtained during the last games and in the coming weeks the selected athletes will start to train intensively for the 2007 games.
