BOV cardholders who use their card to pay for their shopping during this festive season will automatically be eligible to win back double the amount they spend, thanks to this year’s Christmas promotion launched by Bank of Valletta. All BOV cards – Cashlink, Visa and MasterCard – are participating in this promotion, which will run until 31 January.
To be eligible, a minimum of five purchase transactions using a BOV card must be effected by the cardholder during the promotion period, following which he or she will automatically be allocated a stake in the lottery for every transaction made.
Merchants are also being given the opportunity to participate in this year’s promotion. “This is an innovative feature of our BOV cards Christmas promotion for 2006, with our merchant customers having the opportunity to win an Air Malta Flyaway Tour for two people. Five such prizes are being made available this year,” said Bank of Valletta head of card services John Pollacco.
Speaking about card usage during the Christmas period, Mr Pollacco said: “This is a time of the year that is associated with shopping for Christmas presents. It is the time of the year when people normally significantly increase their spending levels. Through the BOV cards Christmas promotion, we are seeking to offer added value to our customers who chose the efficiency and convenience of paying with a BOV card,” he said.
Mr Pollacco spoke about the advantages of paying with a card. “Paying with a BOV card eliminates the need to carry cash. A card is also a better alternative to using cheques especially since, through the EPOS network, immediate authorisation is given by the bank for each purchase transaction. In addition, credit and debit cards are today fast establishing themselves as the modern way to make transactions, offering a series of related benefits not only from a security and convenience point of view, but also in terms of the purchase protection insurance available on certain cards as well as participation in the loyalty schemes available on our premium cards,” he said.
The lottery draws will be held as follows: first draw – Friday, 15 December for transactions effected between 26 November and 13 December. The first draw will consist of 10 transactions for cardholders and 2 merchant names. The second draw will be held on Friday, 9 February for transactions effected between 14 December and 31 January. The second draw will consist of a minimum of 10 transactions for cardholders until the total prize fund of Lm5,000 is exhausted, and three merchant names. The maximum amount that can be won by a cardholder is Lm250.
