May I register my absolute agreement with the headline of your editorial opinion (TMIS, 26 November).

For the last 11 years I have read and heard a constant stream of scurrilous personal abuse aimed at Dr Alfred Sant by his political opponents and their media lackeys.

Such gutter-politics diatribes debase the whole political structure of Malta and it is time that responsible editors and journalists respected their own profession and the Maltese people by refusing to have any more to do with such sad strategies of personally hounding the man.

With regard to the other matter you claim is “hounding”, it seems that both the IGM and the JC, the official bodies that represent Maltese journalists, have rejected a complaint from the Office of the Prime Minister that the conduct of the ONE News journalist was “unethical”. They said that he had a duty to chase an answer concerning an important matter such as the “Special Cleaners scandal”, and in view of the PM’s deliberate efforts to avoid comment, the journalist was entitled to persist.
