Qormi's impressive run continued yesterday with another brilliant performance and another comfortable victory, their victims being Naxxar Lions. Qormi are now sole leaders with 14 points anda game in hand over rivals Tarxien and Mqabba. Qormi are surely the team to beat at the moment and on these recent showings are firm favourites to gain access to the top flight.

The match was completely dominated by the boys in yellow guided by Martin Gregory and followed by a numerous crowd. Apart from the goals scored Qormi played some fast and fluent football, with players like Chetcuti, Talcevski and Paris above the rest.

Naxxar Lions withstood Qormi’s early pressure and even went very close to take a surprise lead whenGalea headed incredibly wide a good Zammit cross.

On 16 minutes Qormi took the lead. Paris, who was outstanding in midfield, crossed into the area where Joseph Chetcuti rose well to head home with the ball hitting the upright before finishing at the back of the net.

Qormi continued to dominate but Naxxar, who were without Anizoba, started to play better especially in midfield, and were rather dangerous in a couple of occasions.

In the dying minutes Qormi again piled up the pressure and the Naxxar keeper made a brilliant save off an angled shot by Chetcuti.

The second half started with Qormi in full command going near with a Formosa header that slammed against the crossbar. On 57 minutes Qormi doubled the score with a fast break started by Talcevski who passed to Chetcuti whose first attempt was blocked by Attard, with the same Chetcuti hitting home the rebound.

A minute later Qormi goalkeeper Farrugia made his best save blocking a Fench dipper.

However the third goal was in the air, and was scored on 34 minutes by a spectacular overhead kick by substitute Michael Borg Olivier.

Mosta 1

Vittoriosa Stars obtained the first win of the season beating Mosta in a scrappy match. This precious win now puts Vittoriosa above the same Mosta in the lower part of the table. Yesterday's defeat was the fourth successive one for Carbonaro's boys, as they now lie in deep relegation trouble.

The result can be considered a fair one, as the Stars showed the better ideas throughout, with Mosta only having a good spell in the second part of the first half.

Vittoriosa made their intentions clear from the very first minute going near with a well taken free-kick by Ivan Zammit saved by the Mosta custodian. On nine minutes a Vittoriosa corner created havoc in the Mosta defence, Calleja's close range header was handled by defender Mifsud on the goal line. Mifsud was sent off and Ivan Zammit scored the resultant penalty.

The Stars continued to dominate the first part of the first half. Anywanna went near on two occasions with his final shots going slightly wide.

In the last minutes of the half Mosta started to get more into the game with Bryan Agius shooting over the bar. In stoppage time the match was back in perfect balance as Mosta were awarded a penalty when Adami brought downCamenzuli, with the Vittoriosa defender sent off after being shown the second yellow card.

From the penalty spot Steve Borg made no mistake to earn Mosta an equaliser.

Upon the restart Vittoriosa again took the lead when Anywanna shot in following a corner action. Mosta failed to make a reaction and the match dragged on with no real scoring chances.

With ten minutes to go Vittoriosa sealed the issue and made sure of victory of.

A Scerri shot hit the post and from the rebound Anywann's shot at goal was handled by defender Muscat, with the referee awarding the third penalty of the match, scored by Ivan Zammit.
