Ministry Condemns vandalism on flash lights

The Urban Development and Roads Ministry has condemned the vandalism on the flash lights that have been set up on the barriers along Regional Road, as part of the Manwel Dimech Bridge project. In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry said unidentified persons ruined all the flash lights during the night between Thursday and Friday. The traffic system along Manwel Dimech Bridge and Mikiel Anton Vassalli Bridge on Regional Road were altered for the purposes of the project this week. Cement bollards were set up all along the connecting tunnel, the two bridges and part of the north-bound carriageway leading up from Manwel Dimech Bridge. Traffic was diverted in a manner that work could be carried out on the eastern viaduct of the bridge. Flash lights were set up all along the continuous row of bollards, to separate traffic flowing along in opposite directions, and they were intended to provide a safety measure for motorists. While deploring the fact that some people are disinterested in both their own and others people’s security, the ministry said it will replace the vandalised flash lights as soon as possible and it appealed to motorists to exercise extra attention when driving in the area.
