Tour Groups on Gozo Channel ships

From Ms G. Mizzi

I refer to A. Brincat's letter “Gozo Channel – an organised disorganisation” (TMIS, 3 December).

On behalf of tourist guides I would like to clarify Mr Brincat's comments on group embarkation. While agreeing with Mr Brincat that correct signage should be on display, and that crowd management at both Cirkewwa and Mgarr needs to be improved, we certainly disagree with his sarcasm or his theory that individuals should skip the queue.

Embarkation is on a first come first served basis. Individuals (irrelevant of whether they are in a group or not) should take their place in the queue and wait their turn. I assure Mr Brincat that nobody likes to wait or miss the boat. There are many instances when tourist guides accompanying a “small” group of two, three, four or five people still queue.

I am sure that if everyone were disciplined enough to respect queuing procedures embarkation would be more efficient.
