Malta Independent Sunday, 10 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The online ticket sales facility for the forthcoming Malta Cup has had an immediate positive response.

Booking began on Friday 1st December through the newly launched Tournament website www.maltacup.org where Block and Day Tickets are available at Lm35 and Lm5-Lm8 respectively.

This brought about an encouraging amount of overseas bookings, mainly from the UK and Germany with a substantial number of overseas fans going for the all inclusive package which comprises flight, hotel accommodation, local airport transfers and tickets for the event.

In this comprehensive package flights by Air Malta, the Tournament’s official carriers, are available from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow in the UK and also from Munich in Germany.

A spokesman for Snooker Promotions confirmed that, “The response from overseas snooker fans has been nothing short of fantastic, and we are receiving a steady flow of enquires from various countries. In fact, most of the best seats have already been taken up by these bookings. We would encourage all those Maltese snooker fans to also take advantage of our online booking facility as soon as possible.”

The Malta Cup 2007, the third in the series, will be played at the Hilton Conference Centre in Portomaso from the 28th January to the 4th February and will bring in action the world’s top sixteen players together with sixteen other qualifiers where at stake will not only be important ranking points but a prize-fund of over £200,000. The winners of the first two editions were Stephen Hendry (2005) and Ken Doherty (2006), the current first and second world ranked players.

The tournament organised by Snooker Promotions (Malta) and sanctioned by World Snooker, has the Malta Tourism Authority, Air Malta, Hilton Malta and Vodafone Malta as main local sponsors.
