Ghar id-Dud in Sliema, a very popular place for both locals and tourists especially in summer, is getting a facelift. The work has been going on for some months now and it is expected to be completed by March. We hope that the deadline set will be maintained. Nobody would like the project to continue into the spring and summer months, when many people go there for a breath of fresh air and a lovely view.
Notte Bianca, held in October, was followed by Notte Magica, held earlier this month. Both activities were held in Valletta, and the aim was to bring the capital city back to life on Saturday nights. Both activities were a success, judging by the thousands of people who spent the two evenings there. Similar activities should be held in other popular areas, such as Sliema and Bugibba, at other times of the year. We are sure that they will be successful too.
Just how could an obviously dangerous electrical product not only reach Malta, but be allowed out to retail outlets? It is good that the Consumer and Competition Division is having the Hengsheng night lamp withdrawn, but it should insist on tighter safeguards to make sure the consumer is more securely protected. Especially where electrical products are concerned – the electricity in Malta, as we all know, does not allow for mistakes. Anyone fooling around with it is playing with death.
A couple entered a domestic appliances establishment and the salesmen there were not as helpful as they should have been. They barely looked up from the desk and almost gave a cold shoulder to the said couple. They left, walked a few hundred metres up the road, and entered another shop. This time, the salesmen welcomed them with a smile and showed them around, replying to all questions that were asked and stayed on 15 minutes beyond the closing time to give service. From which shop do you think the couple bought what they needed?
Speaking of service, people tend to go to those places where they have been warmly received and attended to properly. Unfortunately, giving a good service is not a priority for many establishments in Malta, be it a bar, grocery, restaurant or clothes’ shop. Owners of such establishments should invest in training their staff if they want to sell their goods or services.
Malta has been graced with lovely weather all throughout January so far. It seems more like March or perhaps even April. From the tourism point of view, it is lovely to be able to offer such weather at this time of the year, but the other side of the coin is that our agriculture will suffer the consequences of this kind of weather.
The weather forecast as provided by Melita Cable on its information channel has been given a much needed facelift. More information is being given and the graphics are well-designed, although the captions should be written in bigger font sizes. One does however hope that the information given is updated regularly and explained better – for example, if at 8am it says “valid until dawn”, to which dawn is the graphic referring to, the one that has just passed or the forthcoming one?
