Students from the International Ocean Institute (IOI), the headquarters of which are in Malta, recently visited IMLI, where a reception was held to mark the occasion. The students are currently attending IOI’s training programme on Regional Ocean Governance for Mediterranean and Eastern European Countries.
The students were accompanied by IOI president Awni Behnam, and he and the students were welcomed by IMLI lecturer Norman Martinez.
In a short address, Dr Behnam stressed the importance of continued interaction between the two institutions of like interests and paid tribute to the leadership of IMLI.
A tour of IMLI’s library facilities, and a briefing on its role in the training of lawyers in the field of International Maritime Law, was conducted in order to give the IOI students an idea on what academic resources were available to assist them in their studies.
The visit gave IMLI students the opportunity to interact with the IOI
students and discuss matters of common interest regarding sustainable uses of the oceans.
