Malta champion Matthew Asciak recently spent four days intensive training at the Circolo Tennis di Montekatira, as a guest of the club.

The training was carried out by qualified coaches from the Scuola Maestri which is situated in Rome.

The most positive thing from this trip is that Matthew has been offered the chance to play for this same club in the Sicilian league.

Once he is registered he can then start taking part in the many open tournaments which are organised all over Sicily and which also offer considerable prize money.

Playing these type of tournaments is ideal for Matthew as he will start to play more often against men and obviously face much stiffer opposition.

Accompanying Matthew was Elaine Genovese one of Malta’s top lady players who also took part in the intensive training. The two local players played some friendly matches and achieved some very positive results.

Asciak is sponsored by Lufthansa German airlines. Without their sponsorship, it would be impossible for the youngster to take part in such a number of foreign tournaments whicha re bound to enable him to achieve more experience.
