GTA Welcomes Gozo Channel initiative

Malta Independent Wednesday, 13 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Gozo Tourism Association has welcomed with satisfaction the introduction of the new Gozo Channel Co. Ltd incentives for non-Gozitan residents, as announced recently by Investment, Industry and IT Minister Austin Gatt.

This scheme, through which Gozo Channel is drastically cutting fares for non-Gozitan residents for the next six months, is also being supported by various Gozitan tourism establishments who are participating by offering a refund of the cost of the ferry tickets against accommodation and/or restaurant bills.

The Gozo Tourism Association is once again finding tangible support from the sole provider of access services to Gozo, in its endeavours to sustain the tourism industry in these difficult months of the year.

The Gozitan establishments participating in this scheme are also to be commended on their efforts to back this initiative in order to nurture the domestic market that is so vital to Gozitan tourism, particularly at this time of year, said the association.

It pointed out that, with the introduction of this scheme by Gozo Channel, and the collaboration of the Gozitan tourism establishments involved, access to Gozo has become practically free of charge for the coming winter and spring months.

Knowing full well what accessibility means to a tourist destination, the Gozo Tourism Association is confident that Maltese nationals will avail themselves of this incentive which, apart from offering them a free crossing to Gozo, will also prove beneficial to the tourism industry on the

sister island.
