A decomposed body was washed ashore in Marsascala yesterday, the police said in a statement.

The dismembered body was discovered on the sand on the beach opposite Mifsud Bonnici Square.

The police were not in a position to reveal any more details about the discovery. The nationality, sex and age of the person are therefore as yet unknown.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman appointed several experts to help her draw up a report.

The police said that an autopsy will be performed today.
