Two second half goals scored by striker Chibueze gave Mqabba a well deserved win over Senglea. Following this win, Mqabba are now joint leaders with Qormi.

For Senglea this was the first defeat of the season. Mqabba returned to winning from after a three-match winless streak. Mqabba were by far the better team dominating for long stretches, with Senglea only coming to life in the last 15 minutes of the match.

The first half was keenly contested with Mqabba dominating for long stretches. As usual they had in Chibueze and John Paul Muscat two spearheads in attack, and Senglea's defence was stretched to the limit.

Cocks, Camoin, Anastasi and Lee Galea were very efficient in midfield and had a very high work rate. However, for all their superiority, Mqabba had little to show at the end of the first half.

This was mainly due to Senglea's stubborn defence, with Cosaitis, Simon Aquilina and Erin Azzopardi playing a blinder. Senglea missed Darren Grech's services in midfield, as strikers Chima Dozie and John Fsadni were blotted out of the game.

As stated Mqabba's chances were few with a couple of shots from Anastasi and Albert Busuttil that never troubled Senglea goalkeeper Attard. Mqabba's best chances came on 20 minutes with a Matthew Cocks header landing on the crossbar, and just before the break when Chibueze was unlucky when he hit the upright from an acute angle.

Mqabba continued to dominate the second half and took a deserved lead on the hour. Marlon Briffa who had just come in as a substitute after a long absence, crossed perfectly towards Chibueze who headed home from close range.

Mqabba continued to dominate, even playing better, going near with shots from Muscat, Briffa and Anastasi. However Senglea's first real danger came on 70 minutes when Chima Dozie mis-kicked the ball from an ideal position.

Senglea piled the pressure in the last part of the match with Mqabba on the defensive, even introducing Southward for Cocks. But they were never dangerous in front of goal with Calleja very effective in his sorties. In injury time John Paul Muscat missed a sitter when he hit the base of the upright all alone in front of goal, but on 93 minutes John Paul Muscat did all the running before passing to Chibueze who first timed beautifully in the roof of the net to seal the issue.

Vittoriosa Stars obtained their second consecutive victory yesterday beating Naxxar by the odd goal in three. It was a just reward for Vittoriosa who showed the better ideas especially in the second half in which they dominated.

The match had an explosive start with two goals in the opening eight minutes. Naxxar forged ahead on three minutes when Vittoriosa goalkeeper Psaila mistimed his sortie and it was an easy task for Justin Zammit to tap the ball in.

But the Lions' joy was shortlived as Vittoriosa immediately equalised on eight minutes when Scerri, one of his side's best players, scored the equaliser with an angled shot from an acute angle.

In the second half Vittoriosa were more determined and forged ahead on 53 minutes when Sceri did all the spadework on the right and passed to captain Privitelli who scored from close range.

Naxxar had no answer to the Stars' superiority and never gave the impression they could save the match, with Vittroiosa going near scoring the third goal on several occasions.
