Mellieha-Gudja 2-0

This is an important win for Mellieha who are now trailing leaders Dingli Swallows by just three points with Gudja suffering their third defeat from eight matches. Mellieha broke the deadlock after just four minutes with David Fenech’s free-kick being headed in by Ibrahim Tarik.

On 19 minutes a lapse by Xerxen permitted Tarik to cross for Wayne Borg St.John to head home from close-range.

Gudja ended the match with ten players as Robert Micallef was shown the red card in the 76th minute following an incident with an opponent

Balzan-Zebbug 1-1

This direct clash between two teams occupying mid-table positions ended in a fair one-all result with Balzan avoiding defeat through a merited equalising goal scored by Beppe Pace, direct from a freekick in the 89th minute.

Zebbug had taken the lead in the 50th minute as Gordon Mallia crossed from the right flank for Josef Felice to beat Bonello.

Rabat-Melita 1-0

A first-half strike by Rabat’s lanky striker Kayne Said was enough for the Ajax to obtain their fifth consecutive positive result. Melita were the better team throughout the 90 minutes.

The only goal artrived on 30 minutes. an effort by Alan Zahra was blocked by Carter but Kayne Said was quick to shoot home from close-range.

Melita made a reaction but even though they pushed forward, they were kept out by a solid Rabat defence.

St Venera-St Andrew’s 2-0

St.Venera were worthy winners against St Andrew’s in a match they dominated during the first-half and then controlled after the break.

The Lightnings scored their opening goal on seven minutes through Roderick Farrugia but had to wait till the 84th minute to secure their win through a second goal from Mark Grech
