St Patrick obtained an easy win against bottom placed San Gwann to move to third place in the table. It was a well deserved victory for the boys led by Giorev, who still without some key players, are slowly but surely improving their performances.

On the other hand, for San Gwann still in search of their first win of the season, this was another heavy defeat, the second one in three days, and their future looks rather desperate.

San Gwann were more determined and aggressive in the first half, but St Patrick were more technical and direct in their approach towards goal. Striker Kenneth Abela was in inspiring form yesterday, together with Mark Pullicino who played a blinder in midfield. The latter however limped off before the break.

San Gwann still winless and smarting from last Thursday's drubbing against Hamrun Spartans, started on the offensive with Kurt Micallef testing goalkeeper Cassar following a Sciberras-Cutajar good combination.

Two minutes later St Patrick took the lead with a very good and fluent move down the right flank between Pullicino and Failla, with the latter's cross beautifully met by Kenneth Abela who first timed pasta helpless Spiteri.

San Gwann tried in vain to get to level terms, but the Saints were superior in midfield and were dangerous in a couple of instances. On 26 minutes Kenneth Abela was brilliant on the right penetrating deep inside the area before passing to Simon Zerafa who shot slightly over the bar from an ideal position. Just before the break a Gordon Failla free-kick sailed over the crossbar.

The second half started under a heavy downpour, which made the surface rather slippery. St Patrick were still the better team in the second part even if they had to defend for long stretches. However Eric Saliba and Fleri Soler were outstanding in defence and the San Gwann forwards rarely had a good attempt at goal.

St Patrick were a constant menace with their fast breaks, with striker Kurt Coleiro missing a couple of easy chances. On 62 minutes Kenneth Abela passed to Coleiro who dribbled past goalkeeper Spiteri, but his shot at goal was blocked on the goal line by Antonio Saliba.

Minutes later Coleiro lost his balance all alone in front of Spiteri, missing a golden scoring opportunity. On 76 minutes St Patrick deservedly sealed the issue with the second goal scored by Kenneth Abela who received a long ball from Xerri to beat Spiteri with a grounder.

Seven minutes from time St Patrick scored their third goal when substitute Albert Caruana shot home following a San Gwann defensive blunder.
