On Christmas Night
Thomas is a kind and generous six-year-old boy, and year after year he eagerly waits for the coming of Christmas, because he always gets lovely presents from Father Christmas. The most treasured present was a cute, brown puppy, which was given to him by his grandparents.
It was a cold, frosty night, two weeks before Christmas. As in the previous years, Thomas sat down to write his usual letter to his friend Father Christmas. Besides mentioning the numerous presents that he wanted, he also listed a little present, which his dog Rex needed badly. This was a leather collar with a silver medallion. He also told Father Christmas that he had been a very obedient and kind boy, both with his parents and friends, so he was expecting all the presents that he wished for.
Four days later Father Christmas received a huge bundle of letters and one of them was Thomas’. Father Christmas didn’t know from where to start, so he sat on his favourite armchair, made himself a good cup of hot chocolate and set himself to read the letters. He picked one from the bundle; fortunately it was Thomas’ letter. Father Christmas was a bit surprised because he had never received a letter from someone who asked him for a present for his pet. After a moment of thinking, Father Christmas decided to give Thomas all the presents that he wished for.
He slowly got up from his armchair and got his shiny wrapping paper, scissors, tape and tag. He wrapped all the children’s presents and was extra careful when wrapping Thomas’ special presents. After all this, Father Christmas decided to call it a day because he had been reading and wrapping for a very long time and was extremely tired and off he went to his cosy bed.
On Christmas Eve, Father Christmas got up very early because a long and busy day awaited him. He organised all the presents and carefully packed them in his old, enormous sack. On top he put Thomas’s presents.
When it started getting dark, Father Christmas took out his sleigh, tied his two reindeers Rudolph and Rennie, and put all the presents inside the sleigh. When he was sure that everything was in order, he pulled the reigns and he soon soared high up in the sky. While going at full speed he heard something hitting the snow. Father Christmas turned round to see what it was; in the darkness he couldn’t see a thing. All of a sudden he heard an owl hooting. He turned back and to his amazement he saw something shining beneath him on a rooftop. Father Christmas thought it was a present, which belonged to someone else, so he didn’t dare touch it.
In a split of a second he arrived at his first destination… Thomas’ house. When he went to fetch the presents from his sack, he didn’t find Rex’s collar. He looked and looked everywhere but it was all for nothing. After some time, he realized that Rex’s collar, was the present which he didn’t dare touch. He was extremely worried but suddenly a brilliant idea came to his mind. He untied Rennie from the sleigh and took off his leather collar, which also had a silver medallion. It was a bit dirty so Father Christmas wiped it with his handkerchief, now it looked as if it was brand new. In less than a minute Father Christmas got his spare wrapping paper and tags, which he always carried with him, and carefully wrapped the leather collar.
He slowly walked towards the chimney and as soon as he arrived, he jumped down. Father Christmas thought that he would land on something very hard as he normally does, but this time he landed on something very soft… a fluffy cushion. He tiptoed to Thomas’ room; there he found him and Rex sleeping soundly. Next to his bed Father Christmas found two Christmas stockings. He put Rex’s present in the smaller stocking and Thomas’ in the other.
The next day, on Christmas day Thomas woke up early so he could open his and Rex’s presents. First he opened Rex’s present.
Thomas was delighted to see that Father Christmas had brought him a leather collar with a shiny, silver medallion, which Rex needed so badly.
Thomas happily put the collar on Rex’s neck. Rex was even happier than Thomas because it felt comfortable and it suited him, so he started wagging his tail.
Thomas was glad that this year Father Christmas was very kind and generous with him, so he promised Father Christmas that he would always obey his parents, respect his friends and be kind to everyone.

Dear Santa,
It is great that you bring presents to the girls and boys every year at Christmas time, and what sort of presents they want for Christmas.
For Christmas I want new CDs and a
