The fourth and final race of the Birkirkara 5K Road Running Series 2006 organised by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club in collaboration with the Birkirkara Local Council was held recently.

As expected Birkirkara St. Joseph’s James Douglas and Athleta Pembroke’s Lisa Bezzina won their respective categories and registered the best overall times in this Series. Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club’s athletes accumulated the best time in the category for Clubs.

Douglas finished the race in 15 minutes 50 seconds ahead of Athleta Pembroke’s Mark Herrera (16:21) and Gerald Grech of AS Libertas (16:24).

Lisa Bezzina ran the 5 kilometres in 18 minutes 46 seconds. She had to be at her best to overcome the challenge from St. Patrick’s duo Giselle Camilleri (18:52) and Angela Sammut (18:54) and thus keep her 100 per cent record in the series.

In the clubs’ classification, Birkirkara St. Joseph registered the best accumulated time by its top three athletes in the final classification. Second were Athleta Pembroke and third finished St. Patrick’s AC.
