Court: Two Libyan Men jailed over theft

Two Libyan men were jailed for a total of two years and seven months after they were found guilty of theft.

Khaled El Bahlul Masaud, 36, and 29-year-old Nafaa Ali Arbi Ossta both pleaded guilty before magistrate Giovanni Grixti, to stealing Lm1,700 worth of items from Maria Cauchi in Birkirkara on 2 February at around 4pm.

Following their guilty plea, magistrate Grixti jailed Masaud for 18 months and Ossta for 13 months.

Masaud also pleaded guilty to owning a penknife and Ossta pleaded guilty to relapsing.

In handing down judgement, Magistrate Grixti noted the men’s police record and Ossta’s early guilty plea.

Police inspectors Carmelo Magri and Victor Aquilina prosecuted.
