By means of this letter, I wish to convey my displeasure at the state of the pavement on both sides of Main Street, Mosta (next to Independence Avenue).

Walking down to the square, one early Monday morning, I nearly became a hospital case. I slipped and landed on my backside with a hard thump. Luckily, a neighbour passing by in his car helped me up and took me home, where I had to rest and lie down. Luckily there was no serious injury.

It is apparent that the work carried out was hurried and slipshod. Taxpayers’ money down the drain.

The same can be said about street maintenance at the Blata L-Gholja estate. Some streets have been ignored. How much more can I endure: deflated tyres and bent wheels, steering misalignment, and of course a mechanic’s expensive fees.

When are we going to get our money’s worth, even now that new residents have started living in this area?

Road surfaces here need a complete overhaul and to be rebuilt straight from scratch. If patching up is the order of the day, at least do it properly, and try to make it last!

The local council needs our respect in all civic matters but first it must do its duty and cater to our needs in an ultra transparent manner.
