Premier League leaders Marsaxlokk will be facing a daunting task this evening as they face a resurgent Valletta side which, together with Marsaxlokk, is possibly one of the most in-form teams at present.

It should be a thrilling encounter with Marsaxlokk hoping to extend their lead at the top over second placed Msida who will only be in action tomorrow when they are also expected to win against bottom placed Pieta Hotapurs.

But not only Marsaxlokk will be looking forward for a victory this evening. Valletta are very much aware that they will move up to second place with a victory today. And that would mean that they would be just two points behind Marsaxlokk.

Valletta's coach Paul Zammit will have to do without the suspended Uzeh Edafe, but while the leaders will possibly have the edge in midfield, they will have to be on maximum alert at the back as they will be facing one of the best striking formations which includes Gilbert Agius, Sebastian Monesterolo and Ian Zammit.

Today's other match is that between the struggling Birkirkara and Hibernians who, so far, have never managed to produce any sort of good form which might indicate they are seriously challenging for the title this season.

At present, Hibernians have 21 points and Birkirkara 18. Apart from seeking the points for Championship purposes, that is, to try and get closer to the leaders, both teams will need all the points in their battle with Sliema and Floriana for three places in the Championship Pool when the second phase arrives.

It is a delicate match for both sides as not even a draw will probably make them happy.

The Stripes, in particular, will have to improve considerably over their poor performance on Tuesday against St George's if they are to entertain hopes of garnering the points.

On their part, the Paolites will be hoping to show consistency with a second consecutive win after having beaten Marsa following two defeats in a row.
