As the rankings for the month of December were published by the Federation of International Sports of Table Football - FISTF - Massimo Cremona reached his objective for the Year 2006 by finishing it as number one player in the World Rankings.
Final Ranking points for the current year put Malta's Cremona first with 3183.75 points, followed by Dutchman Verhagen with 3139.25 points while in third place was Portuguese Guimares with 2319.50 points. Fourth was Spanish Flores 2003.25 and fifth was Italy Intra with 1795.00 points.
Other Maltese players in the top 50 of the rankings are Joseph Mifsud in 13th place with 1112.63pt, Hansel Mallia in 17th place with 988.5pt, Mark Gauci 33rd with 626.25pt.
It was a very close up finish as only 44.5points separated Malta's Cremona from Dutchman Verhagen.
Cremona has missed three International events, Rochefort in Belgium, Dunfries in Scotland and Issy in France, which Dutchman Verhagen took full advantage in participating in all these three competition and for this reason it ended up a close up finish between these two player's, as only 44.50 points separated Malta's Cremona from his main rival Verhagen.
"I am very satisfied by this position by the end of the year. It was one of my objectives when I started the year last January, and with hard training and sacrifice I managed to reach it." Cremona commented "For year 2007, my objectives are clear, to continue what I have built in 2006, to win the Italian League with my club Perugia and the World Cup in France."
