Malta’s internet address, Malta.com, sold for a quarter of a million dollars earlier this year, resulting in one of the highest sales made by specialised domain company Sedo.

Sedo’s biggest public splash this year was the Vodka.com sale for $3 million. Other big sales in 2006 include Gays.com, Bike.com, and Blue.com for $500,000 each, Hotels.eu for e257,000 and WiFi.com for $225,000.

Sedo is not content with its 20,000 or so domain name sales this year, and keeps racking up notable sales. It has just sold Announce.com for $90,000.

The domain has a rich history of websites dating back to 1997 in Archive.org The seller of the domain was using it as a search engine submission service.
