Snooker: Simon Zammit Beats Guzi Grech 5-2 in final

In the Final of the Second Snooker Ranking Tournament organised by the Malta Billiard & Snooker Association, Simon Zammit of Jesmond Sports Club beat Guzi Grech of St. Joseph Band Club 5-2 (52-42, 14-60, 60-31, 81-15. 44-48, 61-12, 44-24).

In the second frame Grech made a break of 45. The final was played at St Cathrine Band Club in Zurrieq and the official in charge was Joe Debono.

In the Semi-Finals Guzi Grech beat Duncan Bezzina 4-3, while Simon Zammit beat Clint Grima 4-2.

The highest break of the Tournament was registered by Philip Ciantar who succeeded a magnificant break of 115.

Another good break was done by young Thurston Grixti who succeeded a break of 53.

After these latest results Simon Zammit moved to No1 position in the Provisional Ranking List of the MB&SA followed by Guzi Grech No2, Alex Borg (who did not participate in this ranking event) No3 and Duncan Bezzina No4.

The top players will represent Malta in the coming European Team Snooker Championship organised by the European Billiard & Snooker Association in Gent, Belgium between the 24th of Febuary and the 2nd of March.

The Malta Billiard & Snooker Association congratulated Alex Borg for being honored in receiving a medal of honor of the Republic of Malta. Alex Borg was the fourth snooker player to receive such a great honour.
